Ashland ends long SOC baseball skid with a win over Pels ASHLAND -- Sophomore Mike Allen had a perfect day at the plate and Ashland ended a 34-game Southern Oregon Conference baseball losing streak with a 6-4 victory over Klamath Union in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday at Southern Oregon University. The Pelicans rallied with three runs in the seventh inning to nip the Grizzlies 6-4 in the nightcap. It was first conference victory after 24 consecutive losses for Ashland's second-year coach, Doug Stover. "It got the monkey off our backs," said Stover. "We've been knocking on everyone's door, but haven't been able to put it together." Ashland's last SOC victory before Tuesday came on a 13-8 victory against Eagle Point on April 18, 1998. Allen went 5-for-5 with a walk and got hit by a pitch in the twin bill. Ashland trailed 4-3 in the fifth inning of the opener, when Mike Allen singled to begin the Grizzlies' three-run winning rally. Allen tied the game on an RBI single by Tyson George. Tor George followed with a single, then Nick Ehlers and Nate Monosoff capped the outburst with RBI singles. In game 2, Mike Allen's two-run single highlighted a Grizzly four-run rally in the third inning. Ashland (7-12, 1-11 SOC) held a 4-3 lead going into the seventh, but the Pels used a double, two singles and an error to score three runs.
