No one was injured and one person was arrested during the late-morning ordeal in Butte Falls, said Jackson County Sheriff's Department Lt. Christine Bronson. Sheriff's deputies received telephone calls at 11:09 a.m. that a man was firing a rifle at a vehicle near the intersection of Pine and Cedar streets, then was seen fleeing on foot with the rifle toward the elementary school in the 700 block of Laurel Avenue, deputies said. The school was advised to lock down its facilities at 11:16 a.m., and it stayed that way until 12:29 p.m., Bronson reported. Deputies set up a perimeter, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident, police said. Gary Rodgers, 67, of Butte Falls, apparently fired at least one rifle shot at the victim's vehicle, striking and damaging it, deputies said. Rodgers was taken into custody on three counts of recklessly endangering, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on $24,000 bail, jail records show.
