Angel Mallory, 24, who pleaded guilty after a police chase last month, was among four people arrested Tuesday night after an investigation into another police chase led to a residence in southwest Medford. Mallory, described by police as a known gang member, allegedly sped away from police in a black Mercedes without license plates about 9 p.m. Tuesday near Chestnut and West Main streets, according to a press release from Medford police. The vehicle was abandoned minutes later near Benson and Prune, and witnesses reported seeing the driver enter a house at 1402 Prune St. Police obtained a search warrant after attempts to contact residents failed. Inside the house police found a loaded handgun, methamphetamine and heroin in a room where Mallory was hiding, according to documents filed in Jackson County Circuit Court. Others inside the house were Amanda Torres, 30, who was arrested on a felony charge of heroin possession; Konnor A. Lewis, 22, who was lodged in the Jackson County Jail without bail for violating his parole on a previous second-degree robbery conviction; and Marcella F. Melgoza, 27, who was arrested on felony charges of possessing methamphetamine and heroin, and misdemeanor charges of hindering prosecution and resisting arrest. Mallory is in the Jackson County Jail on a charge of attempting to elude police in a vehicle, heroin possession, reckless driving, driving while suspended and for violating his parole as a felon in possession of a weapon. In June, Mallory was sentenced to jail and probation after pleading guilty to two felony counts of attempting to elude police in a vehicle, along with misdemeanor convictions for driving under the influence of intoxicants and interfering with police. In April, a homeowner whose mailbox Mallory hit grabbed Mallory while he tried to flee police, helping police close the distance. Reach reporter Nick Morgan at 541-776-4471 or [email protected].
