Four Bulldog boxers advance to regional finals LAS VEGAS -- Medford's Bulldog Boxing Club advanced four of its boxers into today's finals of the Golden Glove Regional Tournament. With only one other boxer in his weight class, Lionel Leon already had his ticket punched for the finals at 119 pounds, but teammates Mike Wilson, Sam Sleezer and Ricky Gallegos each had to pound out wins Friday to advance. Wilson, a super heavyweight, defeated Jason Atkinson of Arizona 5-0 to earn a spot in the finals. Wilson manhandled Atkinson throughout the bout, but could never deliver the knockout blow as Atkinson pulled Wilson in and held him at every opportunity after being hurt. Wilson forced two standing-eight counts. Sleezer won another 5-0 decision in the heavyweight class, dominating Ian McIntosh of Nevada with his power punches. Gallegos scored the Bulldogs' third 5-0 decision at 132 pounds in defeating Walter Reyes of Nevada. Saul Regalado of the Bulldogs lost 4-1 to Ray Martinez of Arizona at 125. Winners of the regional tournament advance to the Golden Gloves Nationals May 1-7 in Detroit.
