Jason Anderson, Gary Hathaway, William Jennings Ruffing and Al Traugott have applied for the position vacated by Ed Chun, who resigned Oct. 3. The term expires December 2004. Anderson, an attorney with Foster Denman LLP, is serving or has served on the Medford Planning Commission, Joint Transportation Subcommittee, Britt Festivals board, YMCA board and Rogue Valley Foundation board. Hathaway, a transportation planner with the Rogue Valley Transportation District, lists committees and board involvement, including serving on the La Grande City Council, the Rogue Valley Council of Governments’ senior and disabilities support services board, and the LaGrande City Parks Commission. Advertisement Ruffing, an electrical engineer with Marquess & Associates, has served on a neighborhood association, energy policy task force, and the Niobrara County Volunteer Department and transportation and land use committees. Traugott, a retired Medford public works construction inspector, cites 45 years of experience in construction, management and inspection of engineering and building as experience, but listed no board or committee involvement on his application. A committee of Ward 1 residents was chosen Thursday by the City Council to interview applicants. The five members are Chun; Curt Bennett, a former councilman; Brad Hicks, chief executive officer of the Chamber of Medford/Jackson County; Mel Winkleman, a former councilman who serves on the water commission and street and utility boards; and Esther Kennedy, Sen. Gordon Smith’s Medford staff member. The committee will interview the applicants and make a recommendation to the council, and the council will appoint the new member. Dates for those meetings have not been set.
