CRIME Police looking for homeless man who attacked two others with a crowbar Comment By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Dec. 3, 2014 at 12:03 PM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Dec. 3, 2014 at 12:03 PM » Social News Police are still on the hunt for a man who allegedly attacked two people with a crowbar during a scuffle over stolen property at a transient camp the south end of Medford Tuesday. The incident was reported at about 2 a.m. in a camp off Barnett Road. Medford police declined to release the names of the victims of the attack, but said they are a 38-year-old man and 33-year-old woman. They both were asleep in their tents when the suspect and another man came into their camp with a flashlight and a crowbar and started searching through the camp. The woman exited her tent first, followed by the man. The suspect accused both the man and woman of stealing property from his camp and bringing it over to theirs. "We don't believe the victims are in any way involved in the theft the suspects were referring to," said Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau. The 38-year-old man told the two other men to leave, which is when the crowbar-wielding man started swinging. Police said he struck the 38-year-old twice in the head, with one blow lacerating an ear that would required stitches to patch up. The suspect also struck the woman once in the arm. The suspect's companion urged the suspect, whom he referred to as "Tyler," to stop so they could leave. Both eventually left. The man and woman had their injuries treated at a local hospital. Budreau said these types of scuffles over property that allegedly has been stolen have happened at transient camps before, though there is usually more of an established connection or relationship between parties. "This appears to be more of a random act. The victims were just in the wrong place at the wrong time," Budreau said. Investigators think the "Tyler" suspect came from a nearby camp, as officers found several vacant camps in the nearby area. A description on Medford police's Facebook page describe the suspect as a white male, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, "chunky" and wearing tan boots. No clothing description was available. His cohort is described as a smaller male, though no other specifics were available. Anyone with information about the assault should contact Medford police at 541-770-4784.
