Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Advertisement Email Story to a Friend April 28, 2006 Search for missing man postponed By CHRIS CONRAD Mail Tribune A Phoenix man who was to be sentenced today for sexual abuse and sodomy disappeared Wednesday near Mill Creek in Prospect. Jackson County search and rescue teams will continue their search for 76-year-old Frank Gleich today at around 8 a.m., sheriff Mike Winters said. According to Jackson County Circuit Court records, Gleich was convicted in February on charges of first-degree sodomy and second-degree sexual abuse. Winters was unavailable to comment on whether officials are considering Gleich may have staged his death to avoid prison. Relat ives last spoke to Gleich via cell phone at around 5 p.m. Wednesday. He told them he wanted to snap some photos of Mount McLoughlin and the Mill Creek Bridge for a book he was working on. Advertisement Deputies found his car parked at the view point in the 900 block of Mill Creek Road. Rescue workers speculated Gleich intended to lower his camera and bag by rope down a steep bank along Mill Creek and then climb down to retrieve them at a lower spot down stream. "The rocks are slick and mossy right there," Winters said. "And the water is extremely fast-moving through that area because of the nearby dam. It just rages through this section of Mill Creek." When search dogs arrived they immediately tracked Gleich's scent to the edge of the creek, but failed to find another track, Winters said. Search teams combined with a helicopter and a patrol boat combed several miles along the creek, finding only a shoe floating in the water. A relative said it belonged to Gleich, Winters said. Family members said they've received no cell phone calls from Gleich since yesterday afte rnoon. Winters authorized shutting down the PPNL Dam for 10 minutes to slow the water down enough to search near the outflow, but no sign of Gleich was found. Winters assigned a detective to the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 774-6800.
