The popular burger chain, long-rumored to be coming to Grants Pass, has submitted a pre-application to the city of Grants Pass. The application includes a site plan, showing the restaurant, parking lot and drive-up layout on the chunk of land at the corner of Northeast Morgan Lane and Seventh Street at the north end of town. To make it work, In-N-Out needs about an acre from a neighboring 3.5-acre property, former site of the Royal Vue Motel, which was demolished in recent months. "Their site plan shows they will be purchasing additional right of way from the motel property owner," said Lora Glover, the director of parks and community development. In-N-Out bought the 0.74-acre former Shell station property last year, and over the winter Morgan Lodging LLC bought the former Royal Vue Property for $1 million. "We're still planning on a motel to be built on that site," Glover said of the former Royal Vue property. Glover said a traffic analysis for In-N-Out has been sent to the Oregon Department of Transportation, with comments expected back within a week. "That's probably going to be the largest concern for this project, making sure we can handle the traffic at that intersection," Glover said. In early May, the city will meet with In-N-Out in a pre-application conference, which would likely be followed by the formal site plan review application, Glover said. In-N-Out has said it would take five months to build a restaurant once everything is approved, so it could be done this year. In-N-Out, with headquarters in Southern California, opened its first Oregon restaurant, in Medford, last summer. The first In-N-Out opened in 1948 in a Los Angeles suburb, and the chain has grown to more than 300 locations on the West Coast and in Texas.
