Judge Benjamin Bloom sentenced Gildardo Flores-Ramirez to 100 months in prison, the mandatory minimum sentence for first-degree rape under Measure 11 guidelines. Flores-Ramirez will have to spend 20 years under post-prison supervision when he's released. Flores-Ramirez, 25, was convicted after one day of trial; his defense called no witnesses of its own, and the verdict was unanimous, a jury poll shows. Medford police arrested Flores-Ramirez in June 2014 after he raped a friend of his 17-year-old girlfriend while the victim was sleeping. According to a police affidavit, he later apologized to the 18-year-old victim numerous times over the course of a pretext phone call arranged by detectives, saying he was high on methamphetamine at the time. Flores-Ramirez later told police he didn't remember the incident, the affidavit said. The jury was given the option of convicting Flores-Ramirez of a lesser charge of second-degree sexual abuse, but found he was guilty of the more serious crime. Flores-Ramirez previously was convicted in 2008 of second-degree rape and sentenced to 45 months in prison, court records show. He was on felony probation for that conviction at the time of the 2014 rape.
