Surrounded by the clamor of construction adjacent to one of Medford's busiest crossroads, the regional manager of one of the nation's best-known men's clothing chains is undeterred. In fact, Jonathan Larch thinks the timing couldn't have been better for Men's Wearhouse to arrive in the Rogue Valley. Blue Sky Plaza, whose owners include Ashland publisher Stephen Sendlar, is amidst an overhaul. When work on the 20-year-old center is complete later this summer, Larch, the regional manager of Men's Wearhouse, will find the new digs as spiffy as the clothes his firm sells. "We were looking for visibility and accessibility," Larch said. "In August, our name will go on the new (corner) signage. It was an issue of finding the exact, right place." Men's Wearhouse bypassed Rogue Valley Mall, Northgate Marketplace, Medford Center and even the adjacent McAndrews Marketplace because the company places more emphasis on visibility than foot traffic. "We don't have to necessarily be in prime locations, because people will find us," Larch said. "We feel like this is going to be a great fit. We're very excited for the tenants and the community. One of the things I like about this location compared to other retail locations is it is one of those places you're going to pass all the time if you're driving around all the time. Maybe today you don't need a suit or a tuxedo rental, but when you do, you know where Men's Wearhouse is and can go straight to it." The clothier fills a gap left by the 2013 closure of Jackson's Men's Store in McAndrews Marketplace and the demise of Nathan James men's clothing store on Central Avenue 10 years ago. Men's Wearhouse is scheduled to open July 30. The staff of between seven and 10 employees will be managed by R.J. Wright. Men's Wearhouse, founded in 1973, had sales of $1.8 billion in 2015, just over half of publicly traded Tailored Brands' $3.5 billion revenue figure. The Fremont, Calif., company also operates Jos. A. Bank, K&G, Moores and MW Cleaners. Larch oversees Men's Wearhouse operations in Oregon, Alaska and Vancouver, Wash. The 4,000-square-foot Medford store will be the 15th in Larch's region. Although Men's Wearhouse has operated in Eugene for more than a dozen years, the pieces never fit together in Southern Oregon until now.
