Bartlett, the Panthers' No. 1 singles player, registered two victories to advance into today's semifinals. After winning her first match 6-0, 6-0, Bartlett defeated North Medford's No. 1 Hannah Von Strahl, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. "Kelsey was consistent and played well through some tough conditions," said South Medford coach Hal Borg. The Panthers' No. 1 doubles team of Hannah Case and Kayla Curtis posted a pair of upset victories to also move into the semifinals. Von Strahl and teammate Kristina Ribeiro were both 1-1 on the day for the Black Tornado Other schools in the tournament are Grants Pass, Roseburg, South Eugene, Sheldon, Thurston and Bend. The inaugural event concludes today at Stewart Park Softball CRATER DROPS THREE: At Sparks, Nev., winless Crater lost three games to Nevada schools in the Reed Spring Break Tournament. The Comets lost their first game of the day to host Reed, 19-2, in five innings. Douglas defeated Crater 4-0, then Damonte Ranch came back to hand Crater a 4-3 loss in six innings due to a time limit. Against Reed, Abbi Pearce had a hit, RBI and run and Brianna Sheppard had the other hit for Crater. Against Douglas, Olivia Ryerson had the Comets' only two hits. Crater grabbed a 3-1 lead after two innings against Damonte Ranch but the Reno-area school rallied. The Comets scored twice in the first inning on an RBI double by Shepherd and Ryerson’s run-scoring single. In the second, Pearce’s two-out single platted Marley Roberts, who had reached on an error. The Comets (0-7) complete the tournament with two games today. BONANZA 15-13, PROSPECT 4-7: At Prospect, Bonanza collected 26 hits and capitalized on 10 Prospect errors in a Class 2A/1A District 4 season-opening doubleheader sweeep. In the five-inning first game, Kay Munsell had two hits and scored two runs for the Cougars (4-3, 0-2 Dist. ). Shawna Creech led the Prospect attack in Game 2 with three hits, two RBIs and three runs. Creech smacked a two-run homer in the third inning. Colton Beer paced the Phoenix (3-5) attack with two hits and three RBIs. Ben Hague and Hutchison each added two hits and two RBIs, while Dorian Mobley and James Turnbull had two hits apiece for the Pirates. Girls Golf RIDGEVIEW INVITATIONAL: At Redmond, Crater’s Daniele Giles shot a 77 and finished tied for fifth in the 16-team event at the par-72 Eagle Ridge Golf Course. Giles recorded three birdies on the front nine for a 2-under-par 34 but struggled on the back with a 7-over 43. Henley's Kylie Collum and Roseburg’s Claire Dittemore tied for first at 73. Summit of Bend won the event with a 321 team total. Crater finished 13th with a 449. CRATER (449): Daniele Giles 34-43—77, McKenna Saunders 54-49—103, Falon Sonnen 67-61—128, Rachel Willey 68-73—141. Boys Golf RIDGEVIEW INVITATIONAL: At Redmond, Race Reiter, the top Crater placer, tied for 24th and the Comets placed 15th out of 17 schools at Eagle Ridge Golf Course. Reiter shot an 8-over par 80. Jacob Silver of Canby and Joel Snyder of Oakridge tied for first with 71s. Summit won the tournament at 294., CRATER (393): Race Reiter 80, Mike Piazzini 84, Drake Souza 106, Steven Renfro 123.
