Is your favorite show calling your name to the couch? Yep, it happens to the best of us. This is the time of the year that people tend to want to cozy up to a blanket instead cozying up to a treadmill. To counteract the 30 minutes that often turns into hours, turn your can’t miss shows into a mini-workout. Here are three ideas that will get you sweating while watching Scandal, Modern Family, and everything in between: Watch and weights If you don’t owe a set of hand weights, you should. They are an easy way to sneak in strength training at home and take up very little space. Keep a pair next to your sofa that you can break out while channel surfing. Bicep curls, tricep overhead extensions, shoulder raises and overhead presses are all exercises you can do seated. Not-a-couch-potato couch workout Did you know that a couch makes for the perfect mini-gym right in your own living room? No other equipment required. While your brain is occupied on entertainment, occupy your body with a little exercise. Try decline push-ups with your feet on the couch and hands on the floor, tricep dips with your palms on the couch, or sets of one-legged lunges with your back foot elevated on, you guessed it, the couch. Commercial break crunch challenge During the first commercial break of your favorite show, hit the floor and count how many crunches you can do until your show comes back on. During one of the last breaks, do the same thing, but aim to beat your previous score. Use mild soaps or soap-free cleansers. Avoid excessive hand washing or excessive use of hand sanitizers and moisturize thoroughly afterward. - Brandpoint New Research An apple a day can keep obesity away. New research from Washington State University has found that eating a single Granny Smith apple every day can promote levels of friendly bacteria in our stomachs that help fight obesity by making us feel full. The study published in the journal Food Chemistry found that the non-digestible compounds in the fruit do not get broken down by stomach acid.
