Area duo help ICE advance LAS VEGAS - The Oregon I.C.E., a U15 boys basketball team that includes two Rogue Valley players, won its first game in the championship bracket Monday of the Grand Finale Tournament. Oregon, which went 3-0 in pool play, downed the Nor Cal Tarheels 56-55 in the first round of single-elimination tournament play. Michael Fiddler of St. Mary's High led Oregon with 14 points and also grabbed eight rebounds. Ryan Fiegi of South Medford scored two points, had two steals and three assists. In earlier games, I.C.E. defeated High Five America of San Diego, 59-51, on Saturday, and the Indianapolis G-Rebs, 56-46, on Sunday. It won by forfeit over the Sac-Town Ballers. Against San Diego, Fiddler had seven points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. Fiegi had six points, two steals and two assists. Against Indianapolis, Fiddler produced 16 points, six rebounds and two steals. Fiegi had four points, five assists and three steals. Oregon takes on the New York Monarchs this morning. Baseball ASHLAND SECOND - At Eagle Point, the Ashland 15-year-old Babe Ruth team finished second in the state tournament Sunday, losing in the championship game to Umpqua Valley, 4-2. Ashland went 4-2 in the tourney, losing both times to Umpqua Valley. The other score was 7-4 in the second game. Ashland defeated Bay Area 5-4, won by forfeit over Brookings, downed Central Point 5-2 and beat Roseburg 5-4. Ashland's runs in the title game came on an RBI single by Ben Dodds to score Brian Weston, who reached on a hit, and when Chris Presicci tripled and scored on Ross' squeeze bunt. Soccer SIEGE SECOND - At Corvallis, the Siege, a U11 girls soccer team in the Rogue Valley Soccer Club, placed second in the Corvallis Invitational Sunday. The Siege won four straight games before losing 2-0 in the title game to the Pool Sharks.
