The Medford resident has a 180 average and also rolled games of 197 and 161 for a 658 series in doubles play with partner Dale McFall. Also at Azalea Lanes, Trish Johnson bowled a 253 game — 110 over her average — in the singles competition. Golf Steve Wichard made his second hole-in-one Sunday at Fall River Golf Course in Northern California. Wichard used a 5-wood to ace the 180-yard 11th hole. Witnesses were Gary Bates, Dan Coughlin, Dan Coughlin Sr. and Rick Monday. Terry Cornut aced the fifth hole at Cedar Links Golf Course in the Abby’s-Food 4 Less-Western Beverage tournament. Cornut’s playing partners were George Decker, Mike Cornut and John Robertson. Fred Steele notched a hole-in-one on the 13th hole at Salmon Run Golf Course recently. Playing with Steve Wilt, Steele aced the 186-yard hole with a 4-iron. Judo Tim Burkett won a recent "in-house kata contest" at the Medford Judo Academy, with Lynsey Burkett taking second and Brian Rodriguez third. Lynsey Burkett also earned the award for best martial attitude. The Burketts were spot promoted to first-degree orange belt, while Rodriguez was promoted to third-degree orange belt. Karate Chip Wright earned an eighth-degree black belt on July 18-21 at the International Convention and Tournament in Las Vegas. Diane Huntenman garnered a seventh-degree black belt, while Dave George earned sixth-degree black belt and was grand champion in sparring. Junior black belt Shantell Adams won the competitor of the year award. Running Former Rogue Valley resident Dave Hannaford placed second in the Badwater Ultra Marathon from Death Valley, Calif., to Mount Whitney. The 51-year-old completed the 135-mile nonstop race in 32 hours, 16 minutes, 46 seconds. The winning time was 27:56:47. Soccer Xplosion , a U-14 girls team in the Rogue Valley Soccer Club, finished second in the Corvallis Invitational, losing 1-0 — the only goal it allowed in the tourney — to Livermore, Calif., in the title game Sunday. It earlier had tied Livermore, 0-0. Xplosion had defeated FC Marauders, 2-0, to advance to the title match for the third straight year. The Out Kast , a U-14 boys team from the F.C. Phoenix League, placed second in the Adidas Beaverton Cup. In going 4-0 prior to the finals, Out Kast shut out three foes and outscored its opponents 15-1.
