Foothill Road crash confirmed fatal A sedan crashed into a tree and caught fire this morning, killing one, on Foothill Road off Corey Road in north Medford. The crash occurred at 8:10 a.m. near the intersection of Corey Road, according to Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon logs. A sedan traveling north on Foothill left the roadway near a residential driveway, struck a large pine tree and caught fire, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. The flames also spread to the tree, Jackson County Fire District 3 officials said. Fire officials responded to find the vehicle and tree fully engulfed. Fire District 3 sent two engines to the scene and put out the fire in about 15 minutes, according to department public information officer Ashley Blakely. Crews extricated the driver, who died at the scene. Family members have been notified, but sheriff's officials declined to release any identifying information until the county medical examiner confirms the identity. Foothill Road was closed between Corey and Vilas roads from about 8:15 to 11:15 a.m. during the initial investigation. More information will be posted as it's made available.
