Dotson, a product of Florence's Siuslaw High, set personal collegiate bests in four of five disciplines to position himself in third place of nine competitors midway through the two-day meet. He recorded 3,306 points, putting him in line to crush the 5,770 points he accumulated in his only previous attempt this season at the decathlon, which was the eighth-best mark in the NAIA coming into the meet. Dotson remains within striking distance of Corban's Jason Bracken (3,496) and Oregon Tech's Seth Gretz (3,393) while standing just ahead of College of Idaho's Brooks Ney (3,280). Gretz, from Rogue River, and Bracken came into the meet with the second- and fifth-best decathlon scores on the NAIA list. Dotson kept pace by raising his personal bar in the 100-meter dash (11.55 seconds), the 400 (50.97), the shot put (37 feet, 1/2 inch) and the high jump (5-11 1/4). His best in the long jump was 19-9 3/4, which was also better than the mark in his previous decathlon try. Today's events — the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meters — begin at 9 a.m. and will conclude in the afternoon. The Raider Invitational starts today at 4 p.m., with running events at 6. College of Idaho's Tiana Thomas leads the 15-person heptathlon field. Baseball OREGON STATE 10, UTAH 4: At Salt Lake City, Christian Donahue went 4-for-5 and Logan Ice drove in three runs to pace 14th-ranked Oregon State in the series opener. Donahue posted his second consecutive four-hit game, doubling once to go along with a walk and three runs scored. In his last two games, OSU victories over Oregon and Utah, he’s gone 8-for-10 with three doubles, six runs scored, two stolen bases — both against the Utes — and one walk. Donahue extended his hitting streak to eight games, during which he's 20-for-36 (.556) with 11 runs, six RBIs and six doubles. OSU's Nick Madrigal was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a double, extending his hit streak to five games. The Beavers (25-9 overall, 7-6 Pac-12) tallied 14 hits off three pitchers. Oregon State had three triples and leads the nation with 26. UCLA 6, OREGON 3: At Los Angeles, UCLA scored four runs on just one hit in the first inning and then held off Oregon in the first of a three-game series. Control issues by Matt Krook put the Ducks in an early hole. The left-hander hit the leadoff hitter before walking the second batter. UCLA’s Luke Persico made Krook pay with a RBI single to left field. Krook walked the next two to make it 2-0, and then UCLA (16-18, 7-9 Pac-12) added two more on a passed ball by Slade Heggen and an RBI groundout. Phil Craig-St. Louis launched a two-run home run for the Ducks (17-14, 7-6 Pac-12).
