Steve was born in Eugene, Ore. April 15, 1926 to Dr. S. Ralph and Edna Dippel, and soon after moved to Medford. He graduated from Medford High School in 1944 and that same year married Joyce Cox. Steve and Joyce had three sons; Greg (Susan) Dippel of Central Point, Mark (Judy) Dippel of Eugene, Ore., and Jeff Dippel also of Central Point. Steve served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army. He graduated in 1952 from the School of Optometry at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore. He had Optometry practices in Grants Pass and Kenai, Alaska. He also taught at the School of Optometry at Pacific University at various times throughout his career. Steve enjoyed a long professional life working as a practicing Optometrist until he was 72. Steve enjoyed fishing, hunting and broadcasting sporting events while in Alaska. In 2009 Steve married the former Elizabeth Pickard who survives. He is also survived by his three sons, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, Elizabeth’s children; Mae (Chuck) Jones of Buckeye, Ariz., and Larry (Rose) Pickard of Corvallis, Ore. and his former wife Joyce Dippel. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia Dippel Geren. At his request there will be no memorial service.
