Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend December 17, 2005 Nativity Jesus, Part III Two men who took nativity scene characters a day after a baby Jesus likeness was stolen, returned the plastic characters Friday along with a new plastic infant Baby Jesus’ likeness has returned to Relfe Patterson’s front yard. Two good Samaritans dressed in black returned the nativity scene complete with a newly purchased plastic infant deity. A week earlier the original baby Jesus figurine was stolen from Patterson’s yard in the 300 block of Cerritos Avenue. "It’s certainly not the same one I had," Patterson said. "It still had a tag attached to it." Following the theft, Patterson announced that he would be willing to give the rest of the set away to whoever wanted it. A pair of black-clad, pierced young men took him up on his offer the next day. On Friday, neighbors saw the men unload the figures near Patterson’s front door and then drive away. A Medford police officer showed up at Patterson’s door, saying he had stopped the men just down the street. He asked if Patterson wanted to press charges. Patterson declined, keeping with his original plan to keep earthly law out of the situation. Parental pressure may have persuaded the pair to return Patterson’s nativity scene along with the replacement baby Jesus. They also returned the Bible he gave them the day they took the set. A note written in it read: Advertisement "Dear Sir: These are the boys who came and got the nativity set from you earlier. We felt bad that someone would actually do this to you, so we figured we would buy you a new one. Merry Christmas and God Bless." Patterson was delighted to have his nativity scene returned. He ran electrical cord to his yard and now the set glows as brightly as ever, he said. However, his offer to give the decorations away still stands. "If somebody else wants it, they can have it."
