Red Tail Hawks rip Rogue River By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Sep 01, 2022 09:55 PM A A ROGUE RIVER — Rogue Valley Adventist volleyball coach Brad Parmenter believes his team has what it takes to reach the Class 1A state tournament and, with some good fortune, maybe even win it all. The Red Tail Hawks went out and put that theory in motion with a solid win Thursday night, sweeping past host Rogue River in straight sets for a 25-20, 25-11, 25-17 victory. “It’s always nice when you’re a smaller school and you can go to a bigger school like Rogue River, which got pushed up to the 3A level this year, and get a win,” Parmenter said. “It helps when you have a Division I-level talent.” Senior standout Emma Bischoff was her usual productive self, dropping down 14 kills to go with four blocks and eight service aces for RVA (2-0). The veteran lineup also saw senior Destinee Quattrocelli notch 16 assists and three digs, with freshman setter Naomi Jackson stepping up to provide seven assists, four aces and two digs. The Red Tail Hawks opened the season ranked fourth at the 1A level behind North Douglas, St. Paul and Damascus Christian in a preseason coaches’ poll. “Hopefully we can live up to that No. 4 seeding this season and go on the road (to the state tournament),” added Parmenter, whose team also returns senior leaders Michaela Porter and Isabelle Zamora. ROSEBURG 3, CRATER 0: At Roseburg, Crater moved to 2-2 overall after Roseburg was able to secure a home win in straight sets, 25-21, 25-15, 25-19. Kendra Bittle had 10 kills, six digs and two aces for Crater. NORTH EUGENE 3, EAGLE POINT 1: At Eugene, Eagle Point’s Abby Trautman, Emma Kness and Addison Holcomb were extremely active in each coming up with 20-plus digs but the Eagles came up short in their Midwestern League opener, 25-15, 25-17, 17-25, 25-20. Trautman had 28 digs and seven kills, Kness finished with 24 digs and nine kills and Holcomb added 23 digs, 10 kills and eight aces for Eagle Point (1-1, 0-1 MWL). Bayleee Mullen contributed eight kills, while Makynlee Schauffler dished out 29 assists and Megan Carr had five blocks for EP. Girls Soccer FOREST GROVE 1, NORTH MEDFORD 0: At Forest Grove, fresh off a 1-0 victory of its own, North Medford suffered the opposite fate in its first road game of the season after giving up a goal in the first 10 minutes and being unable to counter. The Black Tornado (1-1) again created good scoring opportunities, with sophomores Olivia Boger and Isabella Driskell leading the charge, but could not find the net on about 10 total shots on goal. Margaret Hamlin came on in relief of Bianca Pezqueda in goal to keep Forest Grove (1-0) scoreless after its opening surge. WILSONVILLE 4, CRATER 0: At Wilsonville, host Wilsonville lived up to its top-ranked billing with an offensive flurry to send Crater to its second consecutive shutout loss.
