Kinney earns bid in girls amateur NORTH PLAINS � Medford�s Tai Kinney tied for first with two other competitors Tuesday at the USGA Girls Junior qualifier at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course. The top five finishers at the one-day qualifying event move on to the U.S. Girls Junior Championship on July 31-Aug. 5 at Pumpkin Ridge. The U.S. Girls Junior Championship is considered the most prestigious event in junior girls competition. Kinney struggled on the front nine, shooting a 41 before settling down on the back side with a 36 for a 77 total on the day. "The front side was really tough," said Kinney, a 17-year-old, senior-to-be at North Medford High. "Pretty much everybody struggled with the front.
