Storms anticipated tonight Sunday Jun 25, 2017 at 4:10 PM Jun 25, 2017 at 4:10 PM Clouds are bringing the Medford area a reprieve from triple-digit temperatures, but thunderstorms are likely tonight, according to the National Weather Service. The Emergency Broadcast System issued an alert for severe thunderstorms Sunday afternoon, but NWS meteorologist Michelle Cohen said the alert is only targeted at a small section of Jackson County. "There's a tiny sliver that goes into Jackson County east of Howard Prairie," Cohen said of the storm system meteorologists are watching. Though a heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. tonight, Cohen believes Medford recorded its high already at 99 degrees, a break from recorded highs greater than 100 degrees Friday and Saturday. Cohen said the moist convection that causes thunderstorms also brings cool air down to the surface. Chances of thunderstorms in the Medford area should dissipate by Monday afternoon, according to Cohen.
