Jackson County Fire District No. 3 and the Medford Fire Department responded to a 6:48 a.m. report of a fire in the 1000 block of Coker Butte Road. When firefighters and four fire engines arrived, they found one bedroom ablaze. Four teenagers at the home escaped safely, but a man inside suffered severe burns on the upper part of his body, District 3 Deputy Fire Marshal Don Hickman said. Medford police identified the burn victim as Jesse L. Dunlap, 62. He was taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center, then transferred to the burn center at Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center in Portland. Legacy officials said he was listed in critical condition Saturday. The fire’s cause is under investigaiton. No smoke detector was found in the home.
