Robert Archie Ferns Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Dec. 7, 2014 at 2:00 AM Posted Dec. 7, 2014 at 2:00 AM » Social News Robert Archie Ferns, 82, passed away Wednesday November 26, 2014 in Rogue River, Ore. He was born April 19, 1932 in Phoenix, Ore. to Archie and Ida Ferns. He was a descendant of pioneers who settled in Phoenix, Ore. in 1868. He attended the Fern Valley Grade School and graduated from Phoenix High School in 1950, then served in the U.S. Marine Corps with duty in Korea from 1952-1955. After the service he attended the University of Oregon. Robert was a lifetime Cattle and Hay rancher on the family ranch in the Phoenix area, till he retired and sold the ranch in 1992 and moved to Rogue River. Married to Colleen Marie Borreson on November 25, 1966 in Reno, Nev. they had 48 wonderful years together. He was a member of the Jackson County Stockmen's Assn. (President 1981-1982), Jackson County Farm Bureau, life-time member of Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and NRA. His hobbies were hunting, riding his motorcycles, and in his younger years racing sports cars. Survivors include his wife; brother, Leonard Ferns, Medford; sister, Evelyn Hervey, Medford; and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by parents; sister, Twila Bayless; and brother, Lloyd Ferns. At his request no service will be held. Interment will be in the Phoenix Cemetery in the family plot. For those who wish, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
