Auburn (3-2) shot 52 percent, but lost a halftime lead and fell behind midway through the second half. With the score tied 61-61, however, Harrell sank a 3-pointer then made a short jumper on a drive across the lane for a 66-61 Tigers lead. Auburn led 41-35 at the half, but neither team took control. In fact, the game was tied 30-30 before the Tigers went on a mini-run in the final five minutes of the half, scoring seven unanswered points and getting a put-back dunk by Jordan Granger for a 41-35 lead just before half. Gary Payton led Oregon State (3-2) with a season-high 20 points and 12 rebounds. Oregon State shot 50 percent, making 26 of 52 shots. Auburn showed considerable improvement in one area, hitting 7 of 17 from three-point distance after making just 2 of 22 in an opening-round loss to Tulsa on Monday night. Both teams came out firing. Auburn was 13 of 22 shooting in the first half (59 percent) while Oregon State made 14 of 28 (50 percent). TIP-INS Auburn: Senior guard K.T. Harrell rebounded after a tough night in Monday’s loss to Tulsa. After scoring 20 or more points in each of the Tigers’ first three games, he was held to two against Tulsa. In addition to Harrell, four other Tigers scored in double figures, with Tahj Shamsid-Dean, K.C. Ross-Miller and Malcolm Canada all adding 11 points. Oregon State: The Beavers possess very little depth — in fact, six of their 16 players are walk-ons and two made the team after an open tryout — but they have high expectations for the future. Three recruits from their 2015 class attended the game: Derrick Bruce, Stephen Thompson and Tres Tinkle. The class was rated in the top 20 nationally by two websites, the highest in Oregon State history. UP NEXT Auburn visits Texas Tech on Wednesday. Oregon State hosts Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday.
