Gold Hill chooses judge, councilman GOLD HILL -- Voters Tuesday chose Calvin Eary as Gold Hill's new municipal judge and Scott Eilefson as the town's new City Council member. Eary, a retired long-haul truck driver, received 93 votes while his opponent, Patrick Pillon, a retired health-care practitioner, got 36 votes, according to final, official results from the Jackson County Elections Department. In the council race, Eilefson, a wholesale lumber broker, received 71 votes, while Christine Alford, a quilt maker, received 41. Some 26 ballots left the municipal judge race blank, elections officials said. The Sept. 21 ballot for the Gold Hill City Council vacancy had no names because no one filed for the position by the deadline. Alford and Eilefson later announced as write-in candidates. Two others received votes Tuesday -- Mari Foster had two and Bruce Harp had one. County Clerk Kathy Beckett will mail out 600 new ballots to Gold Hill residents on Oct. 8.
