No. 2 Cascade triumphs Nolan Roberts had three hits and Kyle Stutzman and Don Jenkins each contributed two as Cascade Christian downed St. Mary's 10-4 in District 6 baseball Monday. The game was shortened to six innings because of rain. The second-ranked Challengers jumped out to an 8-1 lead heading into the sixth before St. Mary's tacked on three runs. Cascade Christian was at the plate and had pushed two more runs across when the game was stopped. "It just wasn't a good day to play baseball," said Cascade Christian coach John Bruce. "We went through 18 baseballs and 14 were ruined. Most of those balls ruined were done so within a few minutes." Brian Edwards picked up his seventh win on the mound against no losses in his four innings of work. Erick Phillips went 2-for-3 for St. Mary's, while the Challengers improved to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in league play. "We got our tough part of the schedule out of the way early," said St. Mary's coach Tony Schultz referring to his team's 3-8 overall record and its 0-4 conference mark. "This Cascade team is very good, so hopefully we can get off to a fresh new start." PHOENIX 5, LAKEVIEW 2 -- At Phoenix, Travis Dunlap and Bobby Dawson hit solo home runs and Theron Hull had a two-run double in the sixth inning as the Pirates improved their Skyline Conference record to 7-1 and their overall record to 10-2. Dunlap, who set the school single-season record last year with 13 home runs, hit his sixth while Dawson notched his fifth. Landon Rhodes gained his third pitching win without a loss for the Pirates. LOST RIVER 17, BUTTE FALLS -- At Butte Falls, Eric Beasly pitched a no-hitter and struck out 11 in the six-inning District 6 contest. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was rained out. Butte Falls, which committed eight errors, gave up six runs in the fourth inning and 11 in the sixth. Josh McCollom drove in six runs, going 3-for-5 with a triple, and Josh Moore laced four singles in five trips for the Raiders. Butte Falls is 0-5 in league and 4-10 overall. Softball ASHLAND 6-4, EAGLE POINT 2-3 -- At Eagle Point, Ashland took advantage of three Eagle Point errors to score five runs in the third inning of the first game of the Southern Oregon Conference doubleheader. Meagan Humann, Jacquie Page and Stephanie Hargis each had two hits to lead Ashland in the opener. Amie Mapes paced the Eagles with a 3-for-4 performance. In the nightcap, Eagle Point (4-9, 0-6 SOC) closed to within one run in the sixth inning but couldn't come up with the tying run. The game was called in the sixth due to rain. HENLEY 13-19, MAZAMA 0-0 -- At Klamath Falls, Erika Clements had four hits and five RBIs for Henley in the first game of its Skyline Conference doubleheader sweep. The Hornets racked up 28 hits in the two five-inning games while Mazama mustered only six. Lois Shoemaker, Ollie Herbert and Krystal Young each had a pair of hits in the opener while Emily Mills, Katie Eck and Herbert each had two in the nightcap for Henley. Young ran her record to 9-0 in Game 1, and Jessica Birt notched her third win of the season in the second game. The Hornets are 11-1 overall and 7-1 in Skyline play.
