Husband indicted in wife’s murder Updated: Oct 28, 2021 04:19 PM A A A Jackson County Grand Jury has indicted David Allen Karnes, 54, with second-degree murder, the District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday. Karnes is under medical care at a local hospital for a self-inflicted firearm wound that occurred Oct. 20 after he allegedly killed his wife, Constance Maria Murphy, 54, and barricaded himself inside their home in the 3300 block of Applegate Road. Karnes shot himself as a SWAT team entered the residence after a standoff between him and local authorities lasting more than two hours. The shooting was reported to emergency dispatchers at approximately 12:20 a.m., according to earlier reports. “The Jackson County Circuit Court will set a future date for Mr. Karnes to be arraigned on the charge,” the DA’s office stated.
