PROGRESS OF FM RADIO STATIONS

Will the Minister of INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING be pleased to state: 


(a) Whether the Government are aware of the slow progress made in theinstallation of FM Stations in the country, particularly in 
Manjeri (Kerala); 


(b) If so, the reasons therefor; and 


(c) the steps taken for early completion of such projects?

(a)&(b): There are a few FM projects including Manjeri where the progresshas been slow. Some of the main reasons for slow 
progress of projects are: 

i) Delay in handing over of site. 

ii) Slow progress of civil work. 

iii) Delay in supplies of equipment. 

iv) Local law and Order problem 


In the case of Manjeri, the site was handed over by the State Governmentonly in February, 1997. Progress of civil works has also 
been slow. Technical area of the building is expected to be ready by August 2000. 


(c): The projects are being closely monitored. The matter regarding delay insupply of equipment is being vigorously pursued with the 
firms concerned. Frequent site visits/inspections are carried out by senior officers to identify the bottleneck at the spot and remedial 
measures are taken accordingly.
