Regular Meeting Lakehead Amateur Radio Club May 12, 1977

This report of meeting highlights was copied from the June,
1977 High-Q, Bill Unger - VE3EFC, Editor.

The May meeting of the Lakehead Amateur Radio Club was opened by Pat Doherty -
VE3HFS in lieu of the President who was ill. The usual round table ensued and
Denny Wilkinson - VE3EUI explained that the tapes had not been aired over CBO
yet. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted.

The Legion Road Race will be held on May 23 starting at Branch 6 at 9:30 am. A
Finn spokesman would be appreciated at Bay and Algoma Streets.

Fred Robinson of CARF will be coming to the June meeting to give a talk on new
regulations and licenses. It was also decided that if anyone was not happy
with the new regulations that he/she should write to their Member of
Parliament.

Bill Unger - VE3EFC made a motion that Club members write their MP on behalf
of the Club and the Club should advise the RSO and CARF that we have done so
in regards to the new Technician (Class) License. Bill Boland - VE3BOR
seconded the motion and it was then passed. Les Harris - VE3AYZ opposed the
idea on the grounds that there was not sufficient information (available now).

Pat Doherty - VE3HFS has decided to postpone the buying of a TH-3Jr at the
cost of $95.00 to the Club until the treasury is built up.

On June 1, there will be an extra meeting with guest speaker George Davis of
the RSO. The topic will be WARC 79 and the new regulations regarding amateurs.

It was decided that if we (add) 73 to our (High-Q) mailing list, we would
receive a free subscription to 73 magazine.

Denny Wilkinson - VE3EUI volunteered to be Field Day Chairman to do the
organizing and take care of the log sheets. His assistants will be Ken Rusnak
— VE3EFZ, Karen Marsh — VE3JAK and Edith Anne Lindeman —- VE3HRH. The location
of Field Day '77 will be determined at the June meeting.

Under New Business, it was announced that the June meeting will be on June 9,
at Confederation College.

The 736th Thunder Bay Communications Squadron is interested in establishing a
Unit Radio Club and asked the Lakehead Amateur Radio Club for (assistance).
Bob Bishop - VE3JAB moved that a member of the Executive correspond with the
Comm. Squadron offering any assistance that the Club can give to start an
Amateur Radio Club in the Squadron.

A Motion was put forward by Phil Moorey - VE3AXL to canvass dealers for
equipment displays at upcoming meetings.

Bob Seed - VE3GIS will be starting an Amateur Radio promo in late August or
early September on the local CBC radio station. Phil Moorey - VE3AXL will

write to the A.R.R.L. to get more information to be available for the fall.

A vote of thanks was given to Les Harris - VE3AYZ for his work on obtaining
the Old Fort William QSL cards for us.

Pat Doherty - VE3HFS then asked for memberships and loans for the Thunder Bay
FM Association. They have just completed arrangements for much needed new
equipment and now need around $400.00 to complete the venture.

The meeting was then adjourned at 9:40 pm, only to re-convene (unofficially)
at the Airlane Motel 20 minutes later for coffee.
