BIDDING FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF FM STATIONS

Will the Minister of INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING be pleased to state: 


(a) whether the Government proposes to invite bidding to establish 300 FM Stations in the country; 

(b) if so, the details thereof; 

(c) whether it is a fact that at present only 2/ of the 08 FM frequencies put up for bidding are operational; 
(d) the steps taken by the Government to make all FM frequencies operational; and 


(e) the loss suffered by the Government by way of non-functional of all FM frequencies?

THE MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING AND CULTURE (SHRIS. JAIPAL REDDY) 


(a) & (0) More than 300 private FM radio channels at 90 locations across the country are envisaged to be set up in Phase ॥ of private 
FM radio broadcasting. 


(c) Yes, Sir. 
(d) The unutilized frequencies of Phase | are envisaged to be utilized in Phase ॥ of private FM radio broadcasting. 


(e) The revenue realized in the ist year as license fee for 25 stations at Rs. /007.50 lakhs was more than the anticipated revenue of 
Rs. 7540 lakhs from 708 stations.
