Specific Aim 1: Test NCI Translational Nanobiology technologies for use in the study of SARS-CoV2 and COVID-19. By utilizing a BSL-2+ area for NIH N-VITA studies in the NINDS Viral Immunology Section, and by testing specialized tools and methods developed in the NCI Translational Nanobiology Section to facilitate ultra-sensitive detection of protein and RNA cargo in the viruses and in COVID-19 associated extracellular vesicles, we seek to advance characterization of both SARS-CoV2 viruses and Extracellular Vesicle (EV) repertoires from patients with COVID-19. Specific Aim 2: Establish a publicly accessible collection of protocols and tools for EV and Viral flow cytometry via our section website, nano.ccr.cancer.gov. Our intention with this effort is to establish an open-access resource at nano.ccr.cancer.gov wherein all protocols and methods for virus and EV detection or characterization that is developed in this NIH N-VITA program will be shared with the worldwide research community. Since launch of the website, we have been posting updates on a near-weekly basis.
