COMMENTARY by Candace Owens — "Steven Crowder Just Destroyed Candace Owens' Latest Charlie Kirk Conspiracy" (published 2026-07-31).

You're home for independent commentary and analysis on politics, media, internet culture, and more. This one has a little bit of it all as uh we're going to check in with Candace Owens, the YouTube and podcast star who has become a self-described conspiracy theorist and made millions of dollars and gone super viral off of her elaborate conspiracy theories about everything from Brigitte Macron's alleged penis to the real killer of Charlie Kirk, which of course somehow involves so conveniently all of Candace's ops and also Egyptian military planes that we're still waiting to hear more about. But, I want to go over something a slightly different which is actually that Candace just promised a big bombshell on her show this week. She's promised this many times, but anyway, she put on X a statement that said, "Today's episode will be positively explosive. Might even free a young man who is being wrongly framed for the murder of Charlie Kirk. Note the people who sold you fed slop, they are going to have a terrible, terrible week." And that tweet has millions of views in which she references her July 28th episode. So, actually then what happened was that the conservative commentator and YouTuber Steven Crowder, with whom to be clear I'm not a fan of his general commentary and uh some personal things about him. But, on this he did a very good job responding to and simultaneously ridiculing, but also like debunking brutally, Candace's big bombshell this week in which she released extremely grainy footage uh and tried to say that it proves that somebody was actually military and it wasn't Tyler Robinson or something. By the way, someone must have leaked that footage to her, and ironically enough, the defense team for Tyler Robinson are the ones who didn't want it released. So, the idea that it somehow vindicates Tyler Robinson is a bit odd. Anyway, let's watch this Steven Crowder clip where he roasts Candace Owens and kind of walks through her big bombshell. >> Here is the evidence, and then we have a new segment, stupid in 2 minutes or less. >> Our Our rooftop guy begins a tactical crawl. It's actually known in the military as a lateral crawl. Let's watch that. >> [cough] >> Jesus Christ, that's Jason Bourne. >> [laughter] >> And I actually do want to >> Wait, guys, I'm sorry. I just want to pause. So, she shows this super grainy footage of the dude on the rooftop, who she's certain is actually a military guy, right? That's the part of the conspiracy is that the military framed Tyler Robinson, and they took him out, and something about Fort Huachuca from her crazy witness um who got a bunch of facts wrong and identified people there who weren't even there. Anyway, and the evidence is how this super grainy footage shows him rolling is just like a cuz he's he's laying down, and he's getting in position to fire the gun. And uh she's like, "Oh, well, that's a military roll." It just kind of looks like a dude wiggling to me, babe. I'm sorry, but like if I were to get down, and I don't know much about guns, I don't know much about I don't know anything about military, you know, maneuvers or whatever, but if I were to just start putting myself in position, I might start moving sideways like that. Wouldn't make me a secret IDF asset or something. It's just extremely silly. And uh but she really went hard on this as like the big bombshell exoneration. Let's watch. >> I want to show you a side by side so you can actually see a real military man do [laughter] that Um alongside this person on the rooftop. Let's bring in that side-by-side >> Which which military wears that uniform? >> Oh, he has a lateral crawl. So, we're just going [laughter] to show you that so that it's clear back and forth flash there while he's military crawling. Here we go. >> [laughter] >> There and we're running that back and forth there. >> Okay, we're going to do a fact check afterwards, but it's fun. >> Signaling the bees. >> It says, "Charlene, will you marry me?" >> have that. >> She's signaling he's a military >> She's actually going with the way the blurry dude crawls to the side a little is proof he's secretly military. Oh my god, guys. That's so so unserious and unconvincing. And of course, all the actual evidence against against her theory of the case, right? The medical examiner report concluding that Charlie Kirk died from a gunshot wound, which she suggests is not the case that there was some exploding microphone or some alternative theory. Just totally fake. The office of the Utah medical examiner is compromised by Brigitte and Egypt and the IDF. The DNA found on the rifle, the text messages and Discord messages where he can basically confesses to the crimes and explains why he why he did it, all fake even though Tyler Robinson's own defense attorneys haven't so far alleged that they're fake. Anyway, all of that is not convincing or real evidence to Candace Owens. That's all fed slop, by which she means like federal government misinformation. But the grainy footage of the dude crawling is somehow proof he's military cuz he went sideways in a slightly odd fashion. I'm sorry, but it's like at some point you've just lost the plot, and you are totally totally engaged in this vicious cycle of confirmation bias, where you just have convinced yourself something is true, and so then you are just warping all information in front of you to stretch it as much as you can to suit that predestined outcome you've already determined must be the case. And it's it's genuinely sad to watch. I mean, Candace is to me clearly in some kind of psychosis, but what's much more disturbing about it all to me is the people the millions of gullible people going along with it. I mean, that's scary, cuz these people are teachers, they're doctors, they're lawyers, they're pillars of their community, and yet they have either chosen to temporarily dispense with or utterly lack basic critical thinking skills about something like this. And are just going along with it. I That's bleak. Anyway, we'll keep going here. >> and see if we, with our eyes, can observe some sort of a kickback. >> All right. >> And again, I have to apologize. I I >> What's a kickback? >> not like Benny Johnson 4K footage, but it's at least clear enough here on your screen that you would be able to discern a strong kickback on a gun. >> What's a kickback? >> It means like a thing payback for nation. Okay, he is >> kick, if that's what you mean, in his leg at one point, which would >> The very mild recoil in a prone position taking a shot. >> So, what she's suggesting is then this like extremely blurry footage that you don't see a recoil from him firing the gun. And I I mean, I don't know. There could be one. You can't see anything. It's total blurry. It's completely blurry. So, is she expecting that he'd be thrown back 3 ft? I mean, he's in a prone position. He's got this He's a large man. He's got this gun lined up. I mean, and he fires the gun. Okay? I mean, I'm not a firearms expert, but I don't think he would be thrown into next Tuesday. And if he would did have some sort of a recoil, we wouldn't be able to see that on this far away grainy footage if it was just a relatively minor, you know, pushback. So, I don't again once again don't understand what this proves at all. But, she's saying like, "Oh, see, you can't see him push back from firing the gun." And she actually seems to think that he like fired a rocket launcher or something. Let keep going here. >> The shot. It's a solid 300 frames per second, too. >> Anybody see a recoil? >> Oh, she meant recoil. >> Oh, recoil. Yeah. Yes, I did. It's very slight, but yeah. >> was, you might even expect a black eye. >> WHAT? >> [laughter] [laughter] >> WHY? DID A BIRD PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE? WHAT? >> YEAH, WHAT? I'm sorry. Again, not a ballistics expert here, but I'm pretty sure you can fire a rifle and look through a scope while laying down. And you don't typically experience such a recoil so severe it hits you in the face and gives you a black eye. Yeah, I'm not sure where she pulled that one from, but okay. >> [laughter] >> Like Like, it's a .30-06 in the prone position. She's acting like it's Samus Aran's PLASMA CANNON. >> [laughter] >> THIS BRINGS US THIS BRINGS US TO STUPID in 2 minutes or less. Or it's free. >> Uh tool man, 2 minutes or less, start the timer. All right. Claim. First one that this evidence was withheld from the court. Truth. Actually, the defense demanded it be withheld, not the prosecution. The prosecution wanted to sell publicly available because they find it very damning for Tyler Robinson. The defense said, "Don't release it." And the judge ordered that to be the case. Claim. The video depicts an advanced tactical military crawl. Truth, former Army RANGER JOSH? >> NO. >> [laughter] [gasps] >> I LOVE I I'M SORRY. I Like I said, I'm not a Crowder fan. I have a lot of criticisms of the guy, but there's something hilarious about the setup of how they're doing this where they're just like bluntly reacting to the absurdity of this. And this guy, you know, is former military. Obviously, these are gun people and they they know the claims are just laughable. And that's what I don't understand is that there's a lot of people in Candace's audience who are, you know, veterans, who are uh people who are gun people or hunting people. How do they not get that it's it's like insane? How are they suspending their disbelief? I feel like it's almost like they're watching, you know, sometimes how works of fiction require you to just suspend your disbelief. Like I'm a I'm a fan of of Hamilton the musical, but obviously uh Alexander Hamilton wasn't black. Yet the the actor that portrays him, Lin-Manuel Miranda, is black, right? So, you just when you're watching you just totally you just kind of have to set that aside and forget about it and suspend your disbelief, right? I feel like they've done that, but with a murder investigation. Which is not You're not supposed to Also, murder investigation is doing crazy work there, that phrase, but that's what they say it is. Anyway, it's okay to do that with fiction and entertainment. It's not in fact okay to do that with criminal allegations and matters of life and death. And I feel like we maybe have lost the distinction and plot there a little bit. Anyway, they keep going here. >> [laughter] >> Claim, the man on the roof is military signaling. Truth, former uh Army Ranger Josh? >> What What would he be signaling? >> Yeah, so it's it's too blurry to see >> What is it like a flanking maneuver? No. >> Okay, it's too blurry to see the kickback, but not blurry enough to see like >> I mean, I didn't see signaling in that. You can't see anything in this footage. So, it doesn't really prove anything one way or the other. That's what I don't understand. And I also think it's interesting how Candace's theory of the case doesn't even make sense to me that they would go through all this work to frame Tyler Robinson and even have him like frame confessions and everything rather than just have him do it or that they would set up a fake shooter but then actually have the microphone explode. I mean why whoever they is, right? Whichever one of her various ops were deciding is somehow responsible for Charlie Kirk's murder. Um why wouldn't if they're going to go through all the trouble of setting up a fake shooting, why wouldn't they just set up a real shooting? Like why would they set up a whole fake scenario where it looks like he got shot but then actually was killed with a bomb in the microphone or whatever theory or something about a trapdoor or whatever, you know, schizophrenic paranoia rambling she's on that week. Why would they go through all that trouble rather than just do it the original way? I don't know. Also, I mean to say nothing of the fact that like I don't know. Are we Sometimes I try too hard to rationalize or like seriously engage with just the deeply unserious ramblings of a postpartum psychosis patient but here we go. >> Look at me. Claim, that person doesn't even look like Tyler Robinson. Truth, the person doesn't look like anybody for the same reason Mario Rainbow doesn't look like anybody. However, there's a plethora of publicly available FOOTAGE, PICTURES AND IMAGES SHOWING ROBINSON on site with his parents even confirming but I'm sure that of course that's also the feds as well. Claim, you never see a person pull out a gun. Truth, I guess it's not in this footage but it looks like he's crawling with something in his hand. Sorry, tactically, militarily. Claim, there was no recoil. Truth, I saw some, Gerald saw it, I I you saw it. Recoil from a .30-06 is pretty moderate, especially in the prone position. The idea that it would cause a black eye, you'd have to be [ __ ] Another [laughter] truth. The medical examiner report, which of course is not real, it's all fed slop, confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound to the neck. Uh there you go. There you go. That's it. We don't even need any more. 2 minutes. That's that we don't need the full 2 minutes on the timer. >> [music] >> Look, like I said, not a Crowder fan, but he cooked with this one. And um I don't know. It's really becoming just this bizarre fork in the road with Candace Owens people, where people are either I mean, pretty much everybody other than her die-hard fans and direct allies has realized that she's crazy and that she's not, you know, actually engaging in some serious investigation, but that she's stretching and twisting things and distorting them beyond any semblance of reality. But then everyone else um I feel like for a while the dam hadn't quite broken, but pretty much everyone outside of her friends and direct allies thinks she's nuts. And then even some of her friends think she's nuts and just don't say so because she's their friend. And I know that for a fact in the media, I'm talking about. So, people who, you know, aren't supportive of her, but also kind of fade away from criticizing her, they they they definitely think she's crazy. They just don't say so publicly or trash her or debunk her because they like her personally, which I'm not really sure you can get away with actually if if that's your job is to discuss these things publicly and you constantly critique uh influencers and media opinions. You kind of just sitting out when your friend spreads some of the most harmful misinformation, I don't really agree with or or necessarily support, but I guess that's their choice. Anyway, look, I thought this was hilarious. I don't know how much longer she can just keep this going. And it's interesting cuz it's becomes kind of an unfalsifiable claim. I mean, what what obviously happened here, at least this is my view. Tyler Robinson will almost certainly be convicted. And then they will just claim it's like a show trial. It's an illegitimate, you know, case that he was wrongly convicted. It's not like the conviction will change the mind of these true believers. There's really I don't think there's anything that can be done that would change their mind at this point. Uh it's interesting. Andrew Wilson did a debate with Stew Peters. I don't know who he is, but he's like somebody in the Candyland conspiracy camp about all this stuff. And he just would not or could not defend any of the allegations and theories they've thrown out. Doesn't understand how the legal process works or what a preliminary a pre-trial hearing even is. It was really really bleak stuff. Anyway, I don't know how this all ends. Um uh there's a small possibility though, and I will say this, that the the reach of Candace and these other conspiracy folks is so profound and so sweeping that hopefully they were able to vet the jury extensively. But it's not impossible that there's some kind of mistrial in the case of Tyler Robinson. If they get one Candyland believer on that juror jury who's secret about it and and kept away with it or a jury a jury member who wasn't originally, you know, part of the Candyland cult or anything, but then at some point during the trial stumbled on it and and fell down the rabbit hole and just digs their hill heels in the sand and refuses to convict Tyler Robinson. And I'm like, what a insane way. I understand that that's not what she thinks she's doing. She thinks she's standing up for truth or or what have you. But the the that would be such a crazy way to supposedly honor your your dear friend who was murdered's legacy. Not only have you trashed his wife and family and put them through hell, you also could theoretically get his killer off in his trial. And are actively seeking to do so.
