Probative. Provocative. That's what we want.
I've incorporated each of your probative -provocative phrases into the existing structure (see below and attached,
same). All fit naturally except for probability - so I enlarged the Power Laws episode to include probability (the
episode was anyway a bit thin). I think this works well, given the new unifying theme of "prediction" - How do
Probability and Power Laws Predict?" Now a stronger episode.
We still need to cut two episodes, reduce the 15 to 13 (a full `season' is 13). If you have strong feelings which 2
to cut - or a gut instinct - please advise.. happy with any 13 of the 15.
Alternatively, I can make the final cut, but I need one decision from you - Do you want to include the episode
dedicated to your evolutionary dynamics program at Harvard?
Finally, anything else to add?
Exciting stuff.
Robert
RADICAL BREAKTHROUGHS - Episodes Revision — 2018.01.21
Closer To Truth Episodes — Revised Topics & Titles: Now begins with series intro/overview; it will
include the most compelling, startling ideas of the series, both as a tease and in exemplifying the meaning
of Radical Breakthroughs. This will be the episode we will promote and it will be the episode reviewed. Each
episode seeks to probe the nature of reality and/or human sentience. (Episode topics and content need further
development and will be modified during production.) CUT Two (2) Episodes.
1. What are Radical Breakthroughs?
How is "current belief' challenged in science? Does a challenge or change in physics differ from, say, a
challenge or change in psychology? How do "paradigms" work? Is science ever relative, conditioned by
conventional wisdom or the prevailing culture? We examine challenges to `current belief'.
2. How is Mathematics Truth?
Math relies on truth. Overview - excitement, scope, meaning & foundations of math.
3. What are Breakthroughs in Mathematics?
Several math fields/sub-fields - fascinating, surprising, radical (comprehensible)
4. Why the `Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics'?
How math explains physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, economics, sociology
5. How do Probabilit), and Power Laws Predict?
EFTA00906123
Why probability not intuitive? Why power laws work.
6. Can Mathematics Explain Biology?
Now includes `replicability crisis' (in addition to what's in the preproduction book)
7. Why are Plants Strange?
8. What is 'Strong Emergence'?
Can all, ultimately, be explained in terms of physics? Or are there higher-level laws that are in principle
impossible to predict, even from complete lower-level information?
9. Why is Deception Common?
Biology relies on deception
10. Can Mathematics Explain Evolution?
Evolutionary Dynamics - Epstein program at Harvard. Not my expertise, but could well fit CTT in general and
Radical Breakthroughs in particular. Would you like to include?
11. What are `Predictive Brains' & `Extended Minds'?
How do brains represent world? How do brains rely on world they represent? 'Enlarging the mind' affects
being human? Do we talk to ourselves using an encrypted signal?
12. Can 'Integrated Information Theory' Explain Consciousness?
Quantifying and explaining consciousness (Giulio Tononi, Un of Wisconsin -Madison), plus supporters and
critics. Radical, controversial, science-based theory.
13. Does 'Top-Down Causation' Make Sense?
How does our mental life affect our physical world? By what mechanisms? When we have self-organizing
systems, can explanations flow from the complex to the simple?
14. Can Music Probe Mentality? (cognition / emotion)
How music gives insight into the brain that produces it
15. What do Dreams Reveal?
Do we dream all day?

Hi from Beijing. Our team is anxious to begin compiling links to videos of all the suggested interviewees, but
prior like you to decide which 13 shows to do (out of the 15) in the new structure.
We can Skype (short) so you can select the 13 shows? East coast mornings, my nights.
Alternatively, you can just tell me which 2 of the 15 episodes to cut - again attached and below (same) - and
we'll begin getting the links.
All are enthusiastic to go into production.
Warm regards,
Robert

Jeffrey:
Since our productive call, I've given a good deal of thought to the series and the 13 episodes. I now have 15
episodes, adding several new ones (while cutting several old ones), using the test of `breakthrough'.
As we discussed, the first thing we must do is to finalize the 13 episodes.
Once we finalize the 13 episodes, then our CTT team will go through and include links to every expert
in every episode (as you requested), prioritizing videos (Youtube, etc). This will be part of the
revised, complete Radical Breakthroughs preproduction book.
Attached are my episode recommendations. As you see, I've added a series intro/overview; it will
include the most compelling, startling ideas of the whole series, both as a tease and in exemplifying the
deep meaning of Radical Breakthroughs. This will be the episode we will promote and it will be the
episode reviewed.
There are 15 episodes on the list, which means that we need to cut two. For each of the episodes I put a one
or two line description - except for the episodes that you suggested. Note that I added an episode on your
Evolutionary Dynamics program at Harvard, if you want to include.
I've rewritten the title of each episode as a question, closer to the actual format (though they will still evolve
as we get into details).
EFTA00906126
So we need to get to 13 episodes by cutting 2 of the 15, and you need to sign off on the 13. Then we will go
to work getting all the links.
If you want a short Skype to discuss, 13 hours ahead in China, so your mornings (mystery nights) best.
Please confirm receipt.
Looking forward and warm regards,
Robert
