In its latest attack on the US, the official PA daily yesterday accused the US of being behind the current Gaza war, in order to undermine the Fatah - Hamas unity. The paper also accused the US of sponsoring the extremist Islamic groups fighting the civil wars in Iraq, Syria and Libya. The official daily EFTA_R1_00471978 EFTA01982709 claimed that the US sent radical Muslims to fight on its behalf, essentially acting as "human shields... so that American soldiers will no longer be returning home in coffins." Palestinian Media Watch has documented many examples in which the official PA daily has demonized the US, often writing that US Middle East policy is based solely on controlling the regions natural resources. In this op-ed, it is argued that the declaration by ISIL, the radical Islamic militia that conquered large areas of Iraq and Syria, that it will not fight Israel right now, proves that "the boss is the same boss, and the goal is the same goal: to tear apart the Arab homeland and gain control of its resources - through the blood of others." As stated above, this op-ed demonizing the US was written in Al Hayat AI-Jadida, the PA's official daily. The current editor is the personal choice of Mahmoud Abbas, appointed less than a month ago by a "presidential decree." When chosen, the new editor, Mahmoud Abu AI-Haija, explained that he is working for Abbas, stressing "that he and his colleagues at the newspaper would work with all their might to live up to the President's and the leadership's expectations and... that Al-Hayat Al-Jadida... would remain a professional platform expressing our people's sentiments and aspirations." [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, June 25, 2014] The following is the op-ed demonizing the US in Abbas' Al-Hayat Al-Jadida: "After the coffins of US soldiers returned from Afghanistan and Iraq, and before that, from Lebanon, [the US] adopted a new method [to protect US interests]: exploitation and creation of Islamic, Christian and Jewish religious extremism, in order to fight [Arabs] with it [this method] rather than with its own soldiers. Taking a closer look at what is happening in the region we can see that the wars in Libya, Iraq, Syria and Palestine were planned by the US in order to protect its interests... The US is using extremists as human shields fighting on its behalf, so that American soldiers will no longer be in danger of returning home in coffins. The ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and Levant), Islamic Front, and Al-Nusra Front (i.e., all radical Islamists) are Muslims from various countries the US is using to fight in Iraq and Syria, in order to fragment the unity of these two Arab countries... Following the decline and defeat of the [US] plot in Syria, and after the announcement of the first steps toward ending the [Fatah-Hamas] rift in Palestine, the US has been using the Jewish ISIL, which is led by Jewish extremism, as represented by [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu EFTA_R1_00471979 EFTA01982710 and [Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor] Liberman. Not even Hitler, Pinochet and Nero - nor the ISIL in Syria, which kills whoever doesn't know the correct number of times to kneel and bow during the morning prayer - ever reached this level... In an attempt to undermine the resolution of the [Fatah-Hamas] rift, the US engaged the Jewish ISIL to attack Gaza - not just in order to commit crimes, kill and destroy, but also to stir up an inter-Palestinian civil war, in an attempt to deepen the rift and Gaza's separation from the rest of the occupied homeland, to prevent the establishment of the independent [Palestinian] state... We are now more aware that the Americans - who want to fight for their own interests using Islamic, Jewish and Christian believers - are truly the head of the snake... ISIL' declaration that it will fight Israel only after it has finished with the infidels merely proves that ISIL in Syria and Iraq will not fight the Jewish ISIL, because the plot is the same plot, the boss is the same boss, and the goal is the same goal: to tear [apart] the Arab homeland and gain control of its resources - through the blood of others."
