Where technological innovation outpaces an organization’s capacity to adopt and upgrade its existing infrastructure, additional security controls often become necessary. While such measures support safe and secure operations across the organization, staying current in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape inevitably involves accepting some residual risk.Over the years, successive waves of innovation cycles have caused organizations to accumulate a significant security debt, as speed and innovation were often prioritized over robust security measures. Indicative of this dynamic is the fact that survey respondents have ranked cloud technologies as the second-most significant technology expected to affect cybersecurity in the next 12 months. While many organizations are well advanced on their cloud journeys, this observation underscores that many of them are still deeply engaged with placing this topic high on their agenda. 20% 40% 80% 60%AI/machine learning technologies (generative AI, agentic AI, malicious use of AI, AI-driven detection and response) Responses (%)64% 94% Cloud technologies (growing reliance on cloud infrastructure)61% Quantum technologies (computing, encryption)37% Autonomous systems/robotics26% Decentralized technologies (secure multi-party computation, blockchain)20% Space technologies (satellite communication, GPS, internet)9% Other disruptive technologies3% 0%In your view, which of the following technologies will most significantly affect cybersecurity in the next 12 months?
