Delivering financial
growth and cost savings
Aligning operations and value chains with a
nature-positive pathway often unlocks significant
economic opportunities and cost savings. Efficiency
improvements in water, energy and land use directly
reduce operational costs. Circular design and
e-waste collection and recycling schemes reduce
material costs and waste liabilities. The Forum’s
New Nature Economy Report II: The Future of
Nature and Business estimated that a full nature-
positive transition in the global economy could
create $10.1 trillion of annual business opportunities
by 2030. Of this amount, estimates show that undertaking priority actions for the technology sector
could unlock about $800 billion in cost savings and
revenue upside by 2030 for businesses operating
across the sector’s value chain. In particular, energy
and water efficiency in operations, a move towards
circularity through resource recovery, and engaging
with the sector’s mining and minerals supply
chain present significant business opportunities.
See Figure 3 and Table 1 for more information.
The nature-positive opportunities summarized
in Figure 3 are derived from the Forum’s New Nature
Economy Report II: The Future of Nature and
Business and are further analysed in Table 1.
