Delivering net-zero emissions and tackling nature
loss are highly interdependent goals. Climate
change is a main driver of biodiversity loss and
efforts to tackle climate change cannot succeed
without safeguarding nature. Therefore, the nature-
positive transition aligns closely with companies’
net-zero commitments and can be integrated into
their climate transition plans. Likewise, companies
can ensure that social objectives are integrated for
a just and equitable nature-positive transition.
Additional guidance is emerging from the Forum and
others on how to develop nature transition plans or
adapt net-zero transition plans to include nature and
biodiversity commitments and objectives, supported
by several institutions. For example:
–The World Economic Forum’s Nature
Positive: Get Started provides guidance on
aligning nature strategies with organizational
maturity, identifying relevant metrics to track and mapping the nature-positive transition
on to business functions.
–It’s Now for Nature’s Nature Strategy Handbook
is a practical guide to support businesses
across sectors in developing a nature strategy.
–Capitals Coalition has published the Integrated
Decision-Making Framework that provides
guidance on how to include value into financial-
economic decision-making in a consistent way,
trusted by decision-makers and investors.
–TNFD has published its Discussion
paper on Nature transition plans with
recommendations for real-economy companies
and financial institutions.
–CDP and WWF are developing transition
planning recommendations, including practical
guidance on tools and methodology. Climate change
is a main driver
of biodiversity
loss and efforts
to tackle climate
change cannot
succeed without
safeguarding
nature.
