CapitalTRUCKING
Achieving net-zero emissions in the trucking
industry by 2050 will require substantial financial
investment. An estimated $9 trillion279 in additional
cumulative investments is needed by 2050, which
translates to an annual investment of $320 billion
until 2050. This is a significant increase from
the current annual capital expenditure (CapEx)
of $286 billion in the trucking sector. These
investments will be crucial for scaling up clean energy infrastructure, developing zero-emission
vehicle technologies, and transitioning to alternative
fuels like hydrogen and electricity. This funding
will support the expansion of BETs and hydrogen
fuel cell trucks, and the development of refuelling
and charging networks. Without this financial
commitment, the industry will struggle to meet
its emissions-reduction targets and the growing
demand for sustainable transportation.
