--> --> A little courtesy would be nice The residents of South Mountain Avenue have had enough! Picture this: It is 9 p.m. after another long day of hard work and I'm finally relaxing at home, when right outside my front door the rumble and screech of an excavator disturbs the quiet neighborhood. This relentless ear-splitting machinery has been my wake-up call at 6 a.m. for the past two weeks, and now it's come back just in time for bed. The crew commences tearing up the street once again, tearing gaping holes in my sanity. I stride out to the street where I meet my neighbor with his young son in his arms, and we ask the crew what brings them here this evening. It is an emergency -a water leak - that must be resolved immediately, and we're told that the sooner we leave them alone, the quicker the work can get done. And eventually the neighborhood can settle down into sleep to anxiously await that cacophony of "BEEP BEEP BEEP" and the crushing of pavement that comes well before the crack of dawn. Though this seemingly endless construction project is awfully important to the city, I get treated like a nuisance, like I am not worth the trouble of being notified of the construction or even receiving a small apology for the massive headache. Perhaps I should move somewhere quieter, like next to the I-5 corridor. A little courtesy would be appreciated here! Awna Marie Zegzdryn Ashland Email your...
