In addition, tickets are also on sale for the Fifth Annual Rogue Valley Blues Festival held at the Historic Ashland Armory during Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, January 14-16 2005. The 2004/2005 Eclectic Music and More series features the following shows: October 8, the duo Reilly and Maloney (Ginny Reilly and David Maloney) return to the Rogue Valley for the first time in over 10 years. For 20 years, the duo is active in the West Coast folk and singer-songwriter scene, and packed audiences in Seattle, where Reilly is based, and in the San Francisco Bay Area, where Maloney lives, plus covering all points in between. The blend of Reilly's voice and Maloney's baritone, their ability to mix the best of other songwriters' material with their own songwriting talents, and their guitar accompaniment and arrangements separated them from the folk scene pack in the 70s. October 24, A Tribute of Phil Ochs will be hosted by his sister Sonny Ochs and features SONiA of disappear fear, Greg Greenway, Magpie, Kim and Reggie Harris, Pat Humphries and Sandy O, David Roth, Tom Prasada-Rao, and John Flynn doing one of Phil Ochs songs and one of their own. Phil Ochs wrote many popular protest songs during the Vietnam War era. Peace House will have a silent auction before the performance. November 5, experience an evening of Celtic music with Susan McKeown accompanied by Eamon O'Leary on guitar and Dana Lyn on fiddle. The Boston Globe said "[McKeown] walks on the wild side of Gaelic melody." McKeown is traveling in support of her newest CD Sweet Liberty. November 13, Mark Nelson and Pop Wagner will share an evening of Hawaiian slack key guitar and cowboy songs and poetry. These two old friends haven't shared a stage in many years and will be coming up with some surprises for the audience. December 4, Riffat Sultana, an singer from Pakistan, performs with Shiraz Ali Khan on 12-string guitar and Ferhan Najeeb Qureshi on tablas. The trio performs traditional and modern material from Pakistan and India, including Ghazal, Sufi, Geet, Filmi, Qawwali, and light classical. Highlighting her performances are her devotional Pakistani Sufi songs. This performance takes place at Havurah Shir Hadash, 185 N. Mountain. February 5 is the Grammy-nominated Native American ensemble Burning Sky, featuring brothers Aaron and Greg White on flutes and guitar. The ensemble also won "Duo/Group of the Year" by the Native American Music Awards in 2003. A flute maker, Aaron White will present a workshop on playing the Native American flute, time and place tba. February 26 brings the world's only Celtic All-Star Grateful Dead jam band Wake the Dead presenting their Irish jigs, reels and airs teamed with songs of the Grateful Dead. The band's unique takes on favorites like "Sugaree" in waltz-time or the bagpipe romp through "Bertha" have been critically acclaimed worldwide. The acoustic group combines fiddle, pipes, guitar, mandolin, bass, Celtic harp, and percussion. March 12 features Lou and Peter Berryman with songs of inventive and intelligent humor. With influences as diverse as Woody Guthrie, Gilbert & Sullivan and Jacques Brel, but always with a twist of their own, Lou and Peter Berryman's whimsical and wonderfully accessible performance leaves audiences with cheeks aching from smiling. March 26, Ferron and Tret Fure team up for an evening of soul-searching music. A songwriter of haunting melody and daunting honesty, Ferron leads listeners through an evening of musical discovery. Her poetic lyrics conjure up forgotten emotions and untrammeled avenues of the soul. Fure's music tackles such issues as war and peace, poverty and murder as well as personal relationships. April 9, Wah! returns to Ashland after a successful performance at the Talent Barn last July. April 22, Priscilla Herdman performs in Ashland for the first time in many years. May 7, Quijerem� brings music from the roots of the Americas. May 14 concludes the season with Naomi Newman in Fall down Get Up.
