--> --> Bush's lunacy: We have it all By Al Bodin Ashland The brain dead people have spoken. The most recent critical election is over, and the "finest democracy" in the world has spoken - all 37 percent of them. I cannot understand why and how that less than 21 percent of the voters ingested the GOP tripe. These few voters have set the future for the country. Appalling! What we have to look forward to is: A Supreme Court that will wind up in the hands of right-wingers probably for at least the next two decades. A GOP controlled Senate will rubber stamp the extreme rightist nominees of Emperor Bush. The consequences? Rights of privacy will be in further danger. A woman's right to reproductive choice will be eliminated. The rights of corporations over the rights of individual citizens will dominate. Public financing of education most likely will be severely damaged. The wall between religion and state will become a sieve. America could easily lose 70 years of progress for working people and civil libertarians. Besides the composition of the Supreme Court, a GOP senate and congress will have the opening to finish gutting of every environmental and consumer protection now on the books, etc. etc. etc. Forget your pension. No reform laws will pass to protect or restore your confidence in either public or private plans. Present and future retirees be alert. You want to work until you're 70? 9-11 has come and gone but Bushie continues to crack the ghastly joke that he "always said" he would raid Social Security in the event of a war, a recession or an emergency. "I got lucky," he laughs joyously, referring to the 9-11 attack wherein nearly 3,000 innocents were slaughtered -"I hit the trifecta." Ashland must close 2 schools because we don't have the money. We have the money, we pay our taxes to the government, we elect our representatives who work for us (hah) to distribute the money where it's needed. And what is more important than funds for our schools? Our education president would rather build an outer-space missile defense system that would cost a quarter trillion dollars by 2005, the largest project ever undertaken by the U.S. Additionally, our megalomaniac Bush intends to spend $354 billion on "defense." He tells us that we could have it all - Medicare prescription-drug coverage. Social Security privatization (costing $2 trillion up front), a beefed up military, tax cuts for his already-wealthy buddies costing $65 billion over ten years and a balanced budget. Lunacy!
