--> --> SOU Raider Club on track with fundraiser Southern Oregon University's annual Raider Club scholarship fund drive reached the halfway point this week well ahead of last year's record-shattering pace. The campaign, which directly benefits Raider student-athletes in the form of financial aid, has generated contributions and pledges in excess of $60,000, which represents 60 percent of the drive's goal. The amount is only $24,000 away from last year's all-time club fund drive record with a month remaining in the effort. "We're off to a great start, but we still have a lot to accomplish," Raider Club president John C. Schweiger said. "We have a lot of supporters out there that still need to be contacted." Schweiger, the owner of Ashland-based Coming Attractions Theatres, Inc., attributes the fund drive's success to the continued success of SOU student-athletes both inside and outside the classroom. Most notably, the Raider football team, which equaled a school record with a nine-win season, attracted capacity crowds in two home playoff games, and the volleyball and women's basketball teams each earned national tournament berths. The winter sports teams yielded an unprecedented eight Academic All-Americans, including program-record numbers in wrestling (four) and men's basketball (three).
