Ashland tightens fire prevention restrictions Comment DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Aug. 4, 2014 at 3:02 PM Updated Aug 4, 2014 at 4:21 PM Posted Aug. 4, 2014 at 3:02 PM Updated Aug 4, 2014 at 4:21 PM » Social News Extreme fire danger means a ban on use of chainsaws and other restrictions went into effect Monday, the city of Ashland has announced. The restrictions are similar to those put in place by the Oregon Department of Forestry in woodland areas of Jackson County because of the extreme fire danger in the region. “You can’t use a weed whacker in tall dry grass,” said Brian Ballou of ODF. Mowing of dead or dry grass or weeds with power equipment and cutting, grinding or welding of metal is also banned in Ashland, except for commercial agricultural purposes or in irrigated, non-combustible areas an eighth of a mile or more from the wildfire hazard zone. Ashland’s wildfire hazard zone is along the hillside on its southern edge. Maps are available online at www.ashland.or.us/fire. Mowing of green lawns is still allowed at any time. Ongoing restrictions to avoid fire danger remain in place in Ashland, including bans on: outdoor debris burning; use of wood in backyard fire pits or metal pans; use of sky lanterns; and smoking in combustible vegetation. — Tidings staff report DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Aug. 4, 2014 at 3:02 PM Updated Aug 4, 2014 at 4:21 PM » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox. calendar Connect with DailyTidings.com Facebook Twitter RSS Back to top Reader Services Reader Services home Subscriptions Subscriber controls Contact us Submissions Photos Events Letters to the editor Corrections Alerts Email alerts RSS feeds Text Alerts Advertise Media Kit Home Products and services Ad rates Advertising contacts Mail Tribune Daily Tidings The Nickel Shop Our Valley Blogs Stay Informed Email newsletter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
