If you already are an Oregon voter but you have recently moved to Jackson County, you must re-register. You have up to November 2 to do so, but after Oct. 12 you must also request a ballot. If you register by mail, you must include a photocopy of something that shows your current name and address (driver's license, paycheck stub, utility bill, bank statement, etc.) Two copy shops in town are helping to make this easier. Voter registration forms and free photocopies of your ID are available at Ashland Copy Center (60 N. Main, across from the Plaza, behind the Water Street Caf�) and Printfast (1700 Ashland Street, in the Ashland Shopping Center). Your registration must be postmarked by Oct. 11. Registration forms are available at the post office (and elsewhere). If you register in person, you do not need to include identification. There are several ways to do this. Go to the DMV, fill out your form and hand it directly to someone at a window inside, rather than registering at any outside tables that may be set up. Or, at the Jackson County Elections Department, 1101 W. Main in Medford (the Old Safeway building) you can register in person. Voter registration groups are coming around town, or visit them at the Old Cantwell's building in Ashland. Finally, you can register at party headquarters in downtown Medford. Be sure you're vote is counted. Ballots will be mailed out on October 15. If you haven't received a ballot by Oct. 20, contact Jackson County Elections at 774-6148. Use a pencil to mark your vote and be sure to sign the outside of the envelope! Unsigned ballots are tossed out. Ballots must be physically present in the elections office by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2. Postmarks do not count, so mail your ballot early. Allow at least six days for delivery. Or you can drop your ballot at, the Ashland Public Library from Oct. 25 to Nov. 2; City Hall (for your convenience; not an official site but they get them delivered) and the elections department (drive-up box at 1101 W. Main in Medford) Women, children, people of all colors have died to ensure the right of all Americans to vote. Our elections affect the entire world. Let's use our vote to make a positive difference for everyone.
