The PBS, NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX local affiliates will all be available in HDTV, for no additional charge, to all AshlandTV subscribers. HDTV, or high-definition television, is the new standard for high quality, wide-screen TV. HDTV Offers up to 6 times the resolution of standard television as well as a 33 percent wider screen and digital surround sound. "One of the big sellers this last holiday season was the new flat-panel, wide-screen high-definition TV sets," said Gary Nelson, president of Ashland Home Net. "We're happy to be able to provide the content that will really show off what these new sets can do, while highlighting the advantages provided by the city's fiber-based network." "It's great to see Ashland Home Net adding such advanced channel offerings so quickly. This is exactly what competition and choice in television services brings to a marketplace," said Joe Franell, Director of Information Technology and AFN for the City of Ashland. AshlandTV's HDTV content should be available to anyone with a television set that includes an HDTV tuner. Converter boxes for older sets are also available. Details on tuning in the local HDTV channels are available off the AshlandTV Web site at www.ashlandtv.com or by calling Ashland Home Net at 488-9207. Ashland Home Net has been providing AFN-based Internet service in Ashland for seven years now, and was recently chosen by the City of Ashland to provide city-wide television service as well. Of course, if AFN had take some action against Charter's predatory pricing, we citizens might not be holding the bag on a $15M debt. Then again, the City should have operated AFN as a public utility instead of attempting to compete in the internet/cable tv market. The #1 thing I,(and everyone else I have talked with) miss about AFN is the on screen listings of the channels. No one wants to wait through ten minutes of crap and ads to see what is on TV. The TV Guide Channel sucks. Bring back the click and scroll or loose my business (as well as a lot of others) If we need a friggen box (at no charge) so be it. Fix it now.
