Cooley had served as an assistant football coach, a head softball coach and an assistant basketball coach at the school. The scholarship will be awarded to "deserving Ashland High School athletes who demonstrate a strong financial need and have a desire to attend a fundamentals camp to improve their athletic skills." A committee has been established to review the applicants eligibility for the award and determine what amount of financial assistance will be given. The amount of financial assistance will be based upon the athletes need and, depending on the amount in the fund, the priorities will be as follows based on Cooley's years of service to each sport: football, softball then basketball. Anyone who wishes to contribute to the scholarship is asked to make checks out to "AHS Russ Cooley Memorial Scholarship" and send to: Ashland High School athletics department, 201 North Mountain Ave., Ashland 97520.
