In the first game, Ashland led 18-0 after three innings. Georgia Williams was 2-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs. She had a home run and a double. Hannah Teixiera drove in four runs and Delaney Rodriguez three. Grace Lenthe went 4-for-5 and scored twice and Anay Philpott 3-for-5 with two runs. Lenthe pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts and a walk. In the second game, the Grizzlies scored four in each of the first two innings and cruised. Lenthe was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs, and Teixiera was 3-for-3 with two runs. Theresa Lehman drove in two. Pitcher Williams allowed three hits and struck out 12 without walking a batter. College Softball At Klamath Falls, Southern Oregon still has a pulse after the first day of the Cascade Conference Softball Championships presented by U.S. Bank thanks to a 6-5 upset of 16th-ranked Concordia in the tournament's first elimination game. The fifth-seeded Raiders (33-25 overall) started Friday with a 4-3 loss to fourth-seeded Great Falls (Mont.). Trailing 3-0, they tied the game with three runs in the fifth inning, but Mindy Larson's one-out single in the seventh brought home Chloe Cross for the game-winning run. SOU fell behind 3-1 after four innings against second-seeded Concordia. The Cavs — who earlier in the day lost a 9-0 lead in an 11-9 loss to third-seeded Corban — surrendered three runs in the fifth as Alexa Gonzalez singled home Cortney Nolan, Krystina Pardoski's groundout scored Kelsey Randall, and Gina Ayala plated Gonzalez for the go-ahead run with a single. Both teams scored twice in the sixth and the Cavs put the potential tying run in scoring position in the seventh, but Brianne Craig retired three straight to end it. The Raiders will play another elimination game at 1:30 p.m. today against Great Falls, which was defeated 3-2 by Oregon Tech in its second game. Randall went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored in the win. Gonzalez had two hits, Ayala had two hits and two RBIs and Nolan added two hits and a run scored. The Raiders will need to win at least three more and possibly four to take the tourney title. If they get by the Argos, they'll play the loser of Saturday morning's game between Oregon Tech and Corban at 4 p.m. College Track and Field At Corvallis, Zach Boyd-Helm and Kevin Jorgensen left the 1,500-meter race with personal-bests and top-five NAIA performances Friday night at the Oregon State High Performance Meet. Boyd-Helm tied University of Oregon’s Chris Brewer for second place with a time of 3:47.70 that was nearly 12 seconds better than his first crack at the 1,500 this season. He now ranks third on the NAIA performance list in that event and in the 800, qualifying automatically for the NAIA Championships in both events. His time was good for the second-best in SOU history, beating his PR of 3:49.33 established in 2014. Jorgensen was right behind him with a time of 3:48.46 for fourth place in the 24-man race. He moved up from No. 12 to No. 5 on the NAIA list, bettering the mark of 3:52.20 he made on April 3 at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. He’s an automatic qualifier in the 1,500 and a provisional qualifier in the 800. Unattached runner Jared Hixon was the winner in 3:47.51. SOU will compete today at the Mount Hood Track Festival. Gymnastics Alyssa Sturdevant claimed the all-around Level 3 state title and Brisa Bauer placed first in the vault, leading Ashland YMCA at the Cumpulsory State Championships, April 24-26 at Corban University in Salem. Sturdevant placed second in both the bars (9.375) and the floor exercise (9.675) and also tied for sixth in the balance beam (9.0) to finish with an overall score of 37.1.  Bauer, also competing at Level 3, won the vault with a 9.350 and finished with an all-around score of 34.525. Also for Ashland, Cambrie Cota placed sixth in the Level 3 vault (9.050), Luna Wilhelm tied for seventh in the Level 4 beam (9.050) and Emma Loos took seventh in the Level 5 beam (8.575).
