The man attempted to choke a 23-year-old Ashland woman who shared a residence with him. She escaped his grip and tried to leave the scene in 1989 Toyota Corolla, running over his right foot as she drove away. He broke the driver's-side window of the vehicle with a baseball bat. She ran into a nearby wooded area with the bat. The man took the vehicle and drove himself to Ashland Community Hospital to be treated for his injuries and make a statement to the Oregon State Police. Six hours later, the woman received treatment at the Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford and filed an assault report with the Jackson County Sheriff. The man is in custody at the Jackson County Jail on four charges and the woman has filed for a restraining order. Ashland Police and Fire Wednesday 6:20 p.m. - Mountain bike valued at $1,100 and helmet valued at $50 stolen from Ashland High School, 200 block of South Mountain Avenue. The bicycle had been locked up. Wednesday 3:14 p.m. - Transient, 28, cited for possession of marijuana. He was smoking on East Main Street at Pioneer Street. Wednesday 3:02 p.m. - Medford woman, 33, cited for possession of marijuana during a traffic stop. She was also cited for driving while suspended and not having insurance. Her vehicle was impounded. Wednesday 2:01 p.m. - Vandalism causing $25 damage found on a blank sign on the Southern Oregon University football practice field, Iowa Street at Wightman Street. Wednesday 12:32 p.m. - During a traffic stop on Creekside at Meadowlark, the Ford Taurus stopped by an Ashland police officer rolled backward into the front of a BMW police motorcycle, causing minor damage to both vehicles. Wednesday 10:09 a.m. - Child cited for possession of marijuana at Ashland Middle School, 100 block of Walker Avenue. Wednesday 8:11 a.m. - Large glass window broken with unknown object, Cedar Hall, Southern Oregon University, 1400 block of Oregon Street. Wednesday morning - A 1989 white Ford F-350 truck with "Mount Ashland Ski" decals on the sides stolen, 600 block of Washington Street. The theft occurred between 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday.
