--> --> May 29: Ashland Rowing Club takes fifth at regatta Ashland Daily Tidings The Ashland Rowing Club on Saturday finished in fifth place at the 18-team Gold Rush Regatta in Sacramento, Calif. The local 50-member club garnered five victories, four second-place finishes and four third-place finishes. First-place winners for the Ashland Rowing Club included: The women's lightweight four (coxswain Karen Carnival, Merike Wallace, Kelly Barton, Judith Cope and Carol Huffman); the women's pair (Beth Geismar and Paula Backus); the men's novice single scull (Scott Knox); the women's four (coxswain Su Rolle, Diane Green, Backus, Geismar and Corinne Lombardi); and the mixed eight (coxswain Toni Knox, Steve Keisling, Mike Skibinski, Green, Ron Iverson, Patti Ruiz, Lombardi, Andy Baxter and Huffman). Second-place finishers were: The men's four (coxswain Knox, Carl Prufer, Joe Lusa, Darrell Gee and Bill Kirkman); the men's lightweight single scull (Jim Sims); the men's novice single scull (Phil Benedetti); and the men's lightweight double scull (Sims and Knox). Ashland Rowing Club third-place finishers were: The women's quad (Lesley Klecan, Kristen Jordan-Rogers, Ruiz and Judy Oursler); the women's eight (coxswain Katie Holden, Green, Backus, Beth Giesmar, Lombardi, Ruiz, Jordan-Rogers, Klecan and Oursler); the men's eight (coxswain Keisling, Knox, Mike Skibinski, Iverson, Andy Tarr, Steve Eadie, Paul Oursler and Ben Jordan-Rogers); and mixed double scull (Klecan and Sims).
