Best Bets: Nov. 20-28 DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Nov. 20, 2014 @ 12:01 am Posted Nov. 20, 2014 @ 12:01 am » Social News Theatre Convivio The community theater group will present "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," adapted from the classic Lewis Carroll novel by Evalyn Hansen, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 20-23, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28-29, and Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 4-6. Matinees will be at 2 p.m. Saturdays, Nov. 22, 29 and Dec. 6, and Sunday, Nov. 30. Hansen's story will be staged in a fairy tale-style set designed by Gabriel Ash with original music and songs by Beth Martin and Richard Heller at Bellview Grange, 1050 Tolman Creek Road, Ashland. The production will include all of the witty wordplay and delightful characters of the original story. Heller directs. Tickets cost $15, $10 for children, and can be purchased at Music Coop, 268 E. Main St., online at theatreconvivio.com or at the door.  Gaelic Storm with Siskiyou Kelt Southern California Celtic band Gaelic Storm will perform its traditional Irish and Scottish music at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. Ashland band Siskiyou Kelt — featuring vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Pat O'Scannell — will open the show. Tickets cost $20 in advance and can be purchased at www.liveatthearmory.com or Music Coop, 268 E. Main St. Tickets will cost $25 the day of the show. The event is for ages 21 and older. The Horszowski Piano Trio Violinist Jesse Mills, cellist Raman Ramakrishnan and pianist Reiko Aizawa of New York City will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, and 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, off South Mountain Avenue, Ashland. Friday’s program will feature Schubert’s "Sonatensatz," Joan Tower’s "For Daniel," and Schumann’s Trio No. 2 in F Major. Saturday’s performance will include Haydn’s Trio in C Major, John Harbison’s Trio No. 2 "Short Stories," and Tchaikovsky’s Trio in A Minor. Tickets cost $30 or $35, $5 for full-time students and Oregon Trail Card holders, and can be purchased online at chambermusicconcerts.org, by calling 541-552-6154 or at the door. Tickets cost $20 for ages 19 through 35 for Saturday's matinee. Identification will be required. The trio also will present free performances and lectures at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at Mountain Meadows Retirement Community, 857 Mountain Meadows Drive, and 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, in the SOU Music Recital Hall. Bathtub Gin Serenaders; The hot-jazz band will celebrate the release of its new CD, "Prohibition in Remission,"with a dance party at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Carpenter Hall on the Oregon Shakespeare Festival campus, 15 S. Pioneer St., Ashland. The all-ages show will begin with dance instruction at 7:30 p.m. Guest vocalists and musicians will join the band to play jazz and blues from the '20s and '30s, along with original music inspired by the era of hot jazz. Admission is $8 at the door. Kids 12 and younger get in free. 'The Janus Concert': Vibraphone player and percussionist Thomas Mackay, pianist Thor Polson, bassist Dave Miller and drummer Theresa McCoy will present "New Concepts in Jazz: The Janus Concert" — progressive jazz composed by Mackay and Polson — at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Grace Lutheran Church, 660 Francis Lane, Ashland. Admission is $10; $5 for Southern Oregon University students and kids 12 and younger.
